The Russia-Ukraine War has been going on since February 2022. The war is not going to end soon, as Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, doesn’t seem to stop even after claiming a large part of the Ukrainian territory. Even after facing numerous sanctions, there has been a minimal effect on the Russian economy, as they have set up several ways to bypass the sanctions.
Let’s go ahead with this blog and learn more about the situation as of April 2024.

ToggleWar Update: Russian Missile Attack In Ukraine Kills 13
The Russian Army has continuously targeted Ukrainian cities, which have been deprived of adequate air defence measures since the beginning of the war. The Russians are targeting even civilian infrastructure like power stations, fuel depots, railway stations, and whatnot. Most innocent civilians are being killed in these attacks.
On April 16, a missile attack on Chernihiv killed 13 people when a missile landed on an apartment building. As Russia has been repeatedly breaking several war conventions and committing numerous war crimes since the beginning of the war, it’s nothing new for them.
While the West has been warning the Russians not to target civilians, the effects of those warnings have yet to be seen. Vladimir Putin is also being called the “butcher,” as he’s not even concerned for the lives of his own soldiers.
His own soldiers are being executed on the battlefield as they’re trying to flee this proxy war of lies and deception. All in all, Russia has emerged as a strong dictatorship headed by Putin. The war is far from being won, and without the support of the West, Ukraine cannot hope to end the war soon.
Why Is Russia Still Not Giving Up on the War In Ukraine?
Russia has a lot of resources to put up with the war in Ukraine. As the biggest member of the former Soviet Union, Russia has a large stockpile of weapons, which include outdated tanks, APCs, artillery systems, missiles, radars, and much more. These weapons may be outdated, but they can be actively used in the war.
The Russian Army has stored thousands of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and artillery shells in massive bunkers across the country. Ukraine has received billions of dollars in foreign aid since the beginning of the war, but Russian stocks are far larger than Ukraine’s.
Weapons Supply Ordeal In The War
The western supplies of arms and ammunition from countries like the USA, UK, France, Poland, Germany, etc. have dwindled since the beginning of 2024. So Russia has gained an advantage in the logistics gap and has created new pressure on the Ukrainian Army.
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has made multiple trips to the allies, including the USA, UK, and Germany. But he has failed to get a clear supply of weapons like fighter jets and long-range cruise missiles. The United States promised to provide F-16 fighter jets to the Ukrainians but hasn’t delivered even a single piece yet.
All of these things have led to the increasing victories of the Russians on the battlefield since January this year. A soldier on the frontline says that “It has been weeks since my unit had the last artillery shell to fire at the Russians”. This proves how the western nations have failed to arm Ukraine.
Due to these factors, Russia is heading towards a victory on the front in Eastern Ukraine. The west must re-arm Ukraine, or soon the whole country will be in the hands of the Russians.
What Ukraine Needs To Win the War: Military Aid
Ukraine needs ammunition, not in small quantities but in millions of units. It needs artillery shells, air defence systems, cruise missiles, jet fighters and much more reconnaissance gear. Without the support of the West, Ukraine might fall by the end of this year.
It needs at least two to three dozen air defence systems like the Patriot to counter the Russian missile threat. In addition, it needs at least three squadrons of the F-16 or a similar class of fighter jets to achieve air superiority.
Hence, the west should focus on the weapon supplies to Ukraine for now rather than supplying Israel with deadly weapons, which are being used to kill innocent civilians in the Gaza strip. But the West doesn’t seem to care, even after observing the fact that Ukraine could soon fall.
To Summarise
Civilians continue to suffer greatly as a result of the ongoing war. Putin’s dictatorship does not stop attacking, ignoring civilian lives and committing war crimes, in spite of warnings and international condemnation. An urgent Western supply of weapons is needed to prevent Ukraine’s collapse by the end of this year. The West’s failure to adequately arm Ukraine will allow Putin’s to solidify his grip over Eastern Ukraine.
